  1. This is the evaluation version of Integrity Master(tm) (Version 3.11).
  2. It will run on any PC with at least 350K free memory and DOS 2.1 or
  3. later. A hard disk is recommended. Registration is $35 plus shipping and
  4. handling.  Please upload or share Integrity Master with your friends,
  5. but keep all these files together. Read file HISTORY.TXT to learn what's
  6. new with this release and read or print file ORDER.TXT for a complete
  7. list of agents.

  11. |  We recommend that you keep your files in a directory called \IM_HOME.|

  20. |  You don't need to read the documentation first! The setup and install|
  21. |  program contains a tutorial to tell you all you need to get started. |

  28. |  IF YOU HAVE A PRIOR VERSION OF IM INSTALLED, JUST COPY THE FILES FROM|
  29. |  THIS RELEASE TO WHEREVER YOU HAVE THE EARLIER FILES. You do NOT need |
  30. |  rerun SetupIM or reinitialize.  You should remove XLstart from       |
  31. |  list of excluded directories (IM options menu) and delete the *.DOC  |
  32. |  files from the prior release (these files now have *.TXT extensions.)|
  33. |  If you have installed IM in Windows using IMWIN.EXE, you will need   |
  34. |  to run IMWIN.EXE again to recognize the new .TXT files.              |

  37. |  electronically upgrading your version of IM (you must make sure      |

  43.  (We frequently refer to Integrity Master by its nickname, "IM")

  45.  Once you install Integrity Master, there will be only two files you
  46.  absolutely need to use Integrity Master:
  47.  
  48.    IM.EXE       - Integrity Master itself
  49.    IM.PRM       - The parameter file which controls how IM works
  50.                 - This file is created by SETUPIM.EXE
  51.  
  52.  If you want to reinstall IM, or change advanced features of IM, you will need:
  53.  
  54.    SETUPIM.EXE  - The setup and install program (It creates and updates IM.PRM)
  55.  
  56.  If you use IM under Windows, you will also need to keep the *.PIF files.
  57.  
  58.  When you install IM, SetupIM will create file:
  59.  
  60.    IMPROC.TXT   - Complete instructions to finish install and run IM
  61.    IM.PRM       - The parameter file (all option settings are stored here)
  62.    IMCONFIG.SYS - Sample CONFIG.SYS file for floppies (optional)
  63.  
  64.  When you run (initialize) IM, it will create integrity data files.  These
  65.  files will be called "ZZ##.IM" unless you use SetupIM to select a new
  66.  name. These files contain the integrity data describing your files.  Files:
  67.  BOOT.SRL and PART.SRL contain system sector integrity and reload information.
  68.  (*.SID files are no longer needed.)
  69.  
  70.  The following files are provided as additional aids but are not required
  71.  to use or modify Integrity Master:

  73.  *.ICO  ------- Various icon files for use of IM under windows.
  74.  3YEAR.TXT ---- Special three year virus and data integrity update offer
  75.  DESCRIBE.TXT - Contains short descriptions of IM for BBS and vendor use
  76.  DISKHELP.TXT - Contains information to help with accessing disk drives
  77.  GENVIR.EXE  -- Execute this program to create SAMPVIR.COM a fake test virus
  78.  HISTORY.TXT -- List of versions and changes made to Integrity Master
  79.  I-M.TXT ------ Documentation file for IM and information on data integrity
  80.  IMCHECK.EXE -- Supplemental stand-alone integrity check program
  81.  IMPRINT.BAT -- Batch file to print files.  Syntax: "IMPRINT filename"
  82.  IMVIEW.COM --- File viewer program. Syntax: "IMVIEW filename"
  83.  IMWIN.EXE  --- Installs IM as a Windows program group.

  103. The following optional file may or may not be present:
  104.  FILE_ID.DIZ -- Description file for PCboard, Wildcat other BBSes.

  106. We're also including the following batch file to make IM easier to use
  107. and to serve as examples for constructing your own batch files:
  108.  
  109. IMSCAN          This batch file allows you to virus scan all files on an
  110.                 entire disk or a specific directory on a disk and all
  111.                 lower subdirectories. For example, to scan files on disk
  112.                 C, type "IMSCAN C:" or to scan subdirectory DOS and all
  113.                 lower directories (e.g., \DOS\UTILS) type "IMSCAN \DOS".
  114.                 If you don't want to check memory each time include a
  115.                 "/B" (e.g., "IMSCAN \DOS /B"
  116.  
  117. IMSCAND         This allows you to scan a specific subdirectory. You can
  118.                 specify just the subdirectory or both the subdirectory
  119.                 and the disk (e.g., "IMSCAND C:\PCB\UPLOADS").
  120.  
  121. IMSCANM         Allows you to scan multiple diskettes for known viruses.
  122.                 After each diskette, IM will prompt you to insert
  123.                 another.
  124.  
  125. IMQ             Does a check in "Quick Update" mode of your current
  126.                 disk. This scans memory and the system sectors for known
  127.                 viruses and then checks only the files that have
  128.                 changed, providing a very fast way to check an entire
  129.                 disk for known viruses.  This also keeps your integrity
  130.                 data current for all files so you are up-to-date in case
  131.                 of a problem.  If you want to specify a different disk to
  132.                 check, you must use the "/Dx" command line switch (e.g.,
  133.                 "IMQ /DCF" will check both drive C and drive F).

  139.                          THE LATEST CHANGES:
  140.  
  141.  If you have been using a prior release of Integrity Master, please read
  142.  the HISTORY.TXT file to see what has changed since your version.
  143.  
  144.  IM now supports the new FAT32 partitions offered by Windows 95 service
  145.  release 2 (OSR2).
  146.  
  147.  IM now supports a Home directory where the autonamed report files as
  148.  well as the system sector and CMOS related files will be stored.
  149.  
  150.  IM can now write clean self-checking boot sectors into your hard
  151.  disk's partition sector or floppy boot sectors.  This allows IM to
  152.  rapidly clean infected diskettes.
  153.  
  154.  IM offers several new command line options:
  155.  
  156. "/CM"    Check resident programs and memory (allows detection of unknown
  157.          memory resident viruses.  This is equivalent to the "Resident
  158.          programs and Memory" option on the check menu.
  159.  
  160. "/IM"    Record (initialize) data describing resident programs and memory
  161.  
  162. "/MF=xxxx.SRL"  Specifies the file used by check "Resident programs
  163.                 and memory" command.
  164.  
  165. "/MS#"   You can use the command line /MS# option (or SetupIM) to
  166.          vary the sensitivity of IM to resident program configuration
  167.          changes.  The sensitivity can be set from 0 to 9. 0 turns
  168.          the check off, and 9 provides maximum sensitivity to
  169.          changes.  /MS4 is the default (and recommended) setting. /MS9 is
  170.          useful for for researchers and on systems where there should
  171.          be no software changes at all.
  172.  
  173.  /VB     Scans floppy disks for boot sector viruses.  This allows IM
  174.          to read floppy disks that cause DOS to crash.
  175.

  177. Some other anti-virus products contain fragments of viruses. If you get
  178. an indication of a known virus in another product, do not be too
  179. alarmed.  Currently MicroSoft/Central Point anti-virus is occasionally a
  180. problem in this way.  If you run Vwatch or Vsafe, IM may find viruses
  181. in memory. Eliminate these programs and check again using IM to see if
  182. you might have a real virus.

  186.          *******     TIPS ON USING IM UNDER WINDOWS    *******

  188. If you run more than one copy of Integrity Master under Windows, be sure
  189. to use the command line /RF= parameter or the Options menu to assign
  190. a different name to the report file. Otherwise the second copy of IM
  191. will fail when it tries to write to the same report file as the first
  192. copy.
  193.  
  194. Integrity Master can run minimized in the background under Windows by
  195. using the icons that we have provided (installed by IMWIN.EXE).  The
  196. *.PIF files that we have provided contain the settings that allow
  197. IM to run.  If you would like to change the way IM executes, just select
  198. the ICON you wish to change and hit ALT + ENTER. This will allow you
  199. to change the Windows properties and show you the .PIF that we use to
  200. set the IM command line. If you are using Windows 95,
  201. there is no .PIF file visible and you can change all the properties
  202. directly. If you wish to change the IM options in Windows 3.1, you can
  203. use the Windows "PIF Editor" program (in the Main program group) to
  204. change the command line for each .PIF file.  For example, you may want
  205. IM to run totally unattended in the background by adding the /NE
  206. parameter to the command line.  Windows 95 sometimes doesn't assign the
  207. correct .PIF information to each icon. If this happens to you you can
  208. click on properties and set the Command line and title to appropriate
  209. values (see the provided .bat files for appropriate command lines).

  212. or you see IM integrity data files in folders, see the suggestion
  213. in QUESTION.TXT on this.
